The President instructed to increase the volume of rail and air transportation by 20 in 2024%

The President of Uzbekistan instructed to increase the volume of rail and air transportation in 2024 by 20% at once. To do this, it is planned to operate at least 2 flights between Tashkent and regional centers, 1 flight per week between the regions, purchase at least 7 aircraft and 6 high-speed trains.

At a meeting on December 18, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to increase the volume of rail and air transportation by 20% in 2024 at once.

It is reported that a quarter of the total volume of services in the country falls on the transport sector. About 1,500 buses were delivered this year, but traffic growth was only 5.5%.

The President instructed the Ministry of Transport to purchase at least 1,200 more buses, as well as to double the number of bus flights to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

It was noted at the meeting that competition had also appeared in the air transportation market, and six private companies had started operating. Since the beginning of the year, 25 new aircraft have been delivered and 17 routes have been opened.

However, the volume of services in this sector increased by only 7.7%. The Ministry of Transport has been tasked with increasing the volume of air transportation by 20% next year.

To do this, it is expected that at least two flights connecting Tashkent with regional centers will be operated daily, and at least one flight connecting regional centers with each other per week. It is planned to deliver at least 7 aircraft to Uzbekistan and open three more international routes.

In the railway sector, tariffs have been revised and unnecessary benefits have been abolished. Six Hyundai Rotem high-speed trains and 30 Skoda electric trains are in the process of delivery. This should ensure a 20 percent growth in the sphere next year, the president said.

The Head of State also noted as a problem the small share of local freight forwarding companies in international transportation. To support local freight forwarders, it is proposed to consider the possibility of deducting transportation costs when calculating customs duties on imported goods, providing VAT discounts for services of local freight forwarders in international transportation.
