UNFPA and UZINFOCOM join forces for digital transformation of healthcare and social protection in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.uz) - The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Unified Integrator for the Creation and Maintenance of State Information Systems "UZINFOCOM" signed a Memorandum of Understanding, which provides for the development of strategic cooperation in the field of digital technologies.
The document aims to expand access to reproductive health services, promote gender equality and protect the rights of young people.
The purpose of the signed Memorandum is to create a framework platform for interaction between the parties in priority areas, including increasing the efficiency of healthcare and social protection systems, improving data management and ensuring broad public access to high-quality public services.
The partnership plans to implement the following key initiatives:
Development and implementation of digital solutions for monitoring demographic indicators and population health;
Supporting programmes to disseminate information on health and human rights using modern digital technologies;
Application of innovative ICT solutions to improve the efficiency of healthcare and social support systems.
The cooperation covers the following priority areas:
Sharing knowledge and best practices
The parties will organize joint conferences, seminars and working meetings to exchange experience in the field of digitalization of public services.
Joint implementation of projects
It is planned to jointly develop and implement digital platforms that will help improve the availability and quality of medical and social services.
Analytics and research activities
The parties expressed their readiness for joint research and analytical projects aimed at improving demographic analysis and assessing the state of public health.
"Digital technologies are key to ensuring fair and equal access to information and services. Cooperation with UZINFOCOM will allow us to implement innovative solutions aimed at improving the quality of life, especially for women, youth and vulnerable groups," said UNFPA Resident Representative in Uzbekistan Nigina Abaszade.
This partnership is fully in line with the priorities of the national strategy “Uzbekistan – 2030”, which focuses on protecting the health of women and youth, reducing regional disparities, digital transformation and empowering vulnerable groups.
This agreement represents an important step towards building a sustainable, modern and inclusive healthcare system in the country.
The UNFPA has been operating in Uzbekistan since 1993. Relations with the government of the republic are regulated by the Standard Agreement on Basic Assistance (SBA) concluded with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which defines the framework conditions for the implementation of international development projects.
Currently, the fifth UNFPA country programme for 2021–2025 is being implemented, within the framework of which priority is given to the following areas:
Promoting reproductive health and human rights;
Ensuring gender equality and equal opportunities;
Taking into account demographic dynamics in development planning;
Support for youth and adolescents.
