Prospects for cooperation between Uzbekistan and WHO were discussed in Geneva

The newly appointed permanent representative of Uzbekistan in Geneva Eldiyor Toshmatov met with the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Ghebreyesus, Dunyo news agency reported.

The head of WHO was informed about the ongoing large-scale reforms in the healthcare sector in Uzbekistan. It was emphasized that in recent years, significant joint work has been carried out with WHO in the areas of personnel training, advanced training of doctors, provision of modern equipment and medicines to medical institutions, exchange of experience and knowledge.

In turn, Tedros Ghebreyesus emphasized his satisfaction that the transformations being carried out in Uzbekistan are in tune with the WHO Global Agenda, which provides for universal access to health services.

Particular attention is paid to expanding project activities aimed at developing the healthcare system of the Aral Sea region, in particular at further improving the organization of medical care, prevention and early detection of non-communicable, respiratory and oncological diseases among the population of Karakalpakstan.

Interest was expressed in expanding cooperation between WHO and the International Public Foundation “Zamin” on the implementation of joint projects in the field of medicine.

At the end of the meeting, the Director General confirmed WHO’s readiness to further develop constructive cooperation with Uzbekistan, as well as to provide assistance in organizing joint events in the field of health care.
