Saudi Arabia to build the world's largest wind farm in Uzbekistan

During the state visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Saudi Arabia, three major development agreements worth $12 billion were signed between the Ministries of Energy of Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia, providing for cooperation, including investments by the Saudi side in the development of "green" hydrogen in Uzbekistan.

It is noted that the first document is an Agreement on the construction by ACWA Power of a 1.5 GW wind farm in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

"This project will become the largest wind farm not only in the region, but also in the whole world," the article says. "It is planned that the WPP capacity will be able to provide electricity to 1.65 million households and compensate for 2.4 million tons of carbon emissions per year."

The publication writes that the second cooperation agreement signed with ACWA Power and Air Products is focused on the development of research and development and subsequent production of green hydrogen in Uzbekistan.

A document was also signed expressing the intention of the Saudi side to invest $ 10 billion in the energy complex of Uzbekistan in the next 5 years.

It is emphasized that today a number of energy projects are being implemented in Uzbekistan together with partners from Saudi Arabia. ACWA Power is building 2 wind farms with a capacity of 500 megawatts each in two districts of the Bukhara region. Also, a wind farm with a capacity of 100 megawatts is being built in the Karauzyak district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

At the same time, this Saudi company is building a thermal power plant with a capacity of 1,500 megawatts in the city of Shirin, Syrdarya region, its commissioning is planned in the fourth quarter of 2023. The total capacity of these 3 wind farms and thermal power plants in the Syrdarya is 2,600 megawatts.
