Measures to develop the electric vehicle industry were presented to the President of Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 6 February, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with a presentation on measures to expand the production of electric vehicles in the country.

Currently, Uzbekistan already has significant experience and the necessary infrastructure in the automotive industry. The country has eight factories producing various types of vehicles, including cars and trucks, agricultural and special equipment.

At a meeting held in December last year, the head of our state emphasized that electric cars are rapidly entering our lives, and gave instructions for the development of this area.

In January of this year, during a state visit to China, the President visited the headquarters of BYD and discussed the prospects for cooperation with the head of the company. As a result, a project for the assembly of hybrid and electric cars was launched in Jizzakh region together with BYD. At the meeting, plans were discussed to increase production capacity to 500,000 units in the near future.

The growing interest in electric vehicles in Uzbekistan is confirmed by the fact that over the past three years, sales of electric vehicles in the country have increased 10-fold. In 2023, electric and hybrid vehicles accounted for 35 percent of the country’s total vehicle imports.

Given the dynamic growth in sales of electric vehicles in the country over the past three years and the desire to increase the share of hybrid and electric vehicles in imports, it was decided to accelerate the implementation of projects and expand plans in the electric vehicle industry. The need for localization of components with the involvement of partners from BYD was also emphasized.

As part of the development of this area, it is planned to create an integrated system that unites the Turin Polytechnic Institute, engineering centers, scientific institutes and laboratories. It is planned to develop a program for developing a network of charging stations for electric vehicles. Increasing demand for specialists and workers in this field may require the training of up to 10,000 people in the next three years.

A decision was made to develop a program for the development of a network of electric vehicle charging stations.
