Water conservation in agriculture will be stimulated by preferential loans

After 2026, it is planned to increase taxes for land without laser leveling.

As Spot wrote earlier, Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on November 29 on the topic of rational use of water resources.

The meeting touched upon the introduction of water-saving technologies. Now they are used on 1.3 million hectares of irrigated areas and can significantly reduce the consumption of water, fertilizers and fuel, while increasing yields.

At the same time, water saving solutions have been implemented in Kashkadarya only on 16% of the land — almost half the national average. Insufficient use of laser alignment of the earth in some regions was also noted.

One of the main reasons for the low spread of water—saving technologies is the lack of an established mechanism for reimbursing loans allocated to farmers for these purposes. During the meeting, a new financing system was announced.

For farms and clusters wishing to implement water-saving solutions, a credit line will be opened at 14% per annum for five years with a two-year grace period. The contract with the bank and with the technology supplier will be concluded on a special platform.

In addition, subsidies for the purchase of modern equipment will continue to be paid to farmers. The state will cover 15% of the cost of agricultural machinery, as well as 30% of the cost of laser levelling.

It is planned to complete laser leveling of acreage by 2026. After that, land and water taxes on areas not treated with levelling will be increased.

Earlier, Spot wrote that the president set the task to accelerate the implementation of water conservation under the slogan «water is not free».
